Dr. Shannon M. Zingle
Owner & Optometrist
Dr. Shannon Zingle dreamed of becoming a doctor from a very young age. From writing “pretend” prescriptions for her stuffed animals, to drawing blueprints of her future private practice when she was eight years old, she truly considers being a doctor her calling and greatest accomplishment.
Dr. Zingle grew up in Northville, Michigan where she graduated first in her high school class of nearly 500 students. She continued her education at the renowned University of Michigan and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biological anthropology and zoology, a joint concentration ranked #1 in the nation for undergraduate anthropology. In addition, she earned a minor in Native American studies with an emphasis in ojibwe language. While attending the University of Michigan, she was inspired by learning from world recognized, leading scientists in the field who to her demonstrated the remarkable result of a passion and career coming together. It was also during college when she became drawn to the preventive nature of eye care, as well as the opportunity eye care provided to directly better someone’s quality of life. She went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University. As you may expect, she is a big fan of the Big Ten!
Dr. Zingle’s distinguished training includes caring for the vision & eye health needs of the active duty and military beneficiaries of the 55th Wing of the U.S. Air Combat Command. As part of the specialty clinic of the 55th Medical group, she was responsible for performing all contact lens fits for pilots belonging to the aviation/flyer contact lens program. Dr. Zingle considers her time spent at Offutt Air Force Base Hospital, caring for those who have done so much for our country, a great privilege of her life.
Dr. Zingle also completed external training at John-Kenyon American Eye Institute, a high volume surgical practice in Louisville, KY whose doctors are nationally recognized as experts in laser vision surgery and ocular disease. The founder of the practice was one of the first doctors in the country to perform LASIK. Much of Dr. Zingle's training was extensively focused on pre-operative and post-operative care involving refractive, cataract, and transplant surgery. She closely followed and learned from two IU alum doctors at the Institute and credits them for shaping the clinical practitioner she is today.
Additionally, she trained at a secondary care clinic adjoining Orlando Ophthalmology Surgery Center. The clinic received emergency transfers from Orlando Regional Medical Center as well as other complex ocular disease referrals from surrounding practitioners. Here she had the unique opportunity to gain exposure to the orbital trauma specialty and accrued knowledge in the latest reconstructive surgical procedures from an oculoplastics specialist. She also continued to increase her experience performing pre-operative evaluations and post-operative examinations on a large refractive surgery and cataract surgery patient volume.
Dr. Zingle practiced primary eye care in greater Nashville for one year before opening Shannon Eye Care in downtown Franklin, August 2015. She values building longtime relationships with her new patients at her own private practice and creates a comforting, warm environment for all. She practices with the motto 'they may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.’ Dr. Zingle is both thrilled and humbled to be experiencing her greatest career aspiration coming true in a city surrounded by so many fellow dreamers.
